Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How much do you charge?

A: It depends on what your goals are for your website and what you want your website to do for you.  I charge hourly on a contract basis (I pay the taxes, not you).  With my level of proficiency on building websites, this generally equates to about $1500 for a fully functioning website with interactive order or contact information forms, a professional, easy to navigate design, and log-in functionality so that you can update the site yourself without having to pay for future updates.  An initial consultation is free, during which we can go over what you would like to accomplish with your website.  I will then offer a proposal for the work to be done, which you can accept or decline.

Q:  How long will it take you to build my website?

A: This depends on what your goals are for the site as well as how long it takes to get the content together to post.  Animations, complex forms, and integration with your in-house systems are the most time consuming aspects in building a website.  However, a well thought-out website that is easy to navigate and maintain will be the best in the long run, so be sure to ask questions before deciding to eliminate any of these things.

Q:  I really like your sites with animations...why don't all of your sites have animations?

A:  The decision to put animations on your site should depend on who will be looking at your site (your target audience).  If the majority of your customers are assumed to have older computers, they may not be able to view all of the animations that you have on your website, and they may not want to take the time to download it.  This is something that we will talk about before the website is built so that we insure the design can reach your customers.

Q:  I just started my company and don't have any other advertising or marketing materials yet.  Can you still build my website even though I don't have any information in print?

A:  Printed materials can definitely help me to understand your business, but they are not necessary.  We can have as many discussions as necessary for us to agree upon your website marketing plan and the goals of your website.  It is only after these goals are defined that I can provide an accurate quote for you, so there is no obligation for the consultations and no money will exchange hands until we agree upon a price.  Building a website can actually be a great tool to help you organize and define your business goals!

Q:  How do I update my site?

A:  There are many ways that I can set up the site so that you can update your information.  However, once again, it depends upon what kind of information you have and where it is located on the website (e.g.-navigation bars are more difficult to change than the content of a page).  I am not one to charge you a monthly maintenance fee for small updates...I would actually prefer if you did your own updates using a system that I set up for you during the creation of the site.  Of course, if you have major changes that you cannot do, I will be glad to help you.  Or, if you would prefer that I do all of the updates, I am flexible and open to discussion.

Q:  Can you do more complex web designs that involve a lot of programming?

A: Yes.  I Know a variety of programming languages, including ASP classic, ASP.NET, VB, VB.NET, PHP, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, and SQL.  I have programmed many stand-alone applications, and can develop pretty much any custom application you need for your website.  Contact me to discuss!
